An ideal amendment is Coco Coir. What is Coir?

It is the stiff coarse fibers from the outer husk of a coconut. It lies between the hard, internal shell and the outer coat of a coconut. When ground down, it looks a lot like peat moss.
Coco coir has an aeration of about 30% allowing water to run off well while also retaining moisture in its fibers

Coir (from Malayalam kayar, cord) is the coarse fibers extracted from the fibrous outer shell of a coconut. Coir is a 100% natural and renewable resource. It has spongy characteristics, possessing excellent air space and drainage with a water holding capacity of > 70%. A compressed brick, block or bale should be soaked in water for at least 15 minutes before using.
Coir can expand 5 to 7 times in volume. Make sure you have a large enough container when soaking your coir.
Coir can account for up to 40% of a potting mix, so add it to your soil or as an ingredient of your potting mixes.
